Well this probably isn't everyone's favorite genre but thought I would post it, and maybe get some feedback, good or bad, all is welcome! LOL! Hopefully not all bad, as I'm pretty new at recording and I'm a drummer on top of that, so I think that pretty much says it all!

hmmm 45 views no comments, everyone must abid by the old adage if you've got nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all.... Ahh well shucks!

Needs more screams and double-bassing. :D

Not bad if you're a newbie. Guitars are way too loud. Performance seems pretty good for the most part. Some weirdness with the constant double-kicking, but not bad.

Speaking of drums, how are you miking the kit? It sounds like everything is there, but it's kinda buried under the barrage of guitars. The kick needs a lot more presence for this genre. The snare is kinda weak and sounds like you're banging on a metal pot during the "quiter" verse parts. :p

I am not a pro, but what I hear is pretty good stuff. drums are great... but i would like to hear more of them. sounds kinda in the background. 2:39 :the kick is somewhat odd to me here. could be the cool time change or guitar timing affecting it. I dig the vocals. mixes in nicely. tight groove.

Really, you think there is room for more?? I'm not sure I could really play anymore but I could try!!! :D

Well thanks! I am, I'm just now starting to think I understand how a compressor works and I'm not completly sure I grasp it. The studio isn't completly foreign to me, I've had some experience playing drums in maybe a dozen sessions or so, but never doing all the engineering work so I'm not completly foreign to the equipment as far as what it is. It's how, when or why to use it or exactly what it does, or which way should I turn this knob that loses me! But I'm learning, it's fun, yet sometimes frustrating... Oh and I keep teling my guitar player that they I think the guitars are too loud, he just keeps saying he wants the guitar in your face, and I keep telling him not's all about guitar. Might have to start mixing with no guitar players around...

I individually miced them, two 57's on the snare, e604's on the toms d112 on the kick, and 2 rode nt1-a's for overheads. The kick tone I'm not happy with at all, in fact I've never gotten a tone I've been happy with from the d112 I have, might be broken or something? Oh and two AKG condensors I forget the model number though for ride and hats...

Your right about the metal pot on the verse parts I have this bell I'm hiting with the snare, that seems to work live but not so much when recorded. If I had it to do over again i would not use it. As bad as the kick and the snare sound I've contemplated rerecording the drums to this song but everyone has warned me it's difficult to track drums after the fact. But I'm pretty much to the point with the kick and snare where it's like ok where is the suck less knob and how far can I turn it??

Oh also used a rode nt1000 for a room mic.

Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!!

Thanks!! I'll have to work on bringing the drums more forward. I think maybe cause I played drums on the track that perhapes I can pick them out better and think they are too loud or something, as a few people have told me they are too quite.

Another problem with them is I'm a bit inconsistent in my playing I seem to vary a good bit volume wise. So I was told learn how to use a compressor..

At 2:39 it switches to this bridge section, there is sort of a build there, and then a bit of a time change. I think maybe the guitar is stomping on what I'm playing there. But the kick is following the cymbals until the big creshendo then I actually switch to playing the verse beat only I am using a bunch of double kick this time around.

Thanks alot on the vocals, I've been really really worried about them as I know the least about recording them, and even less about mixing them, and they are the most important part really.

Thanks for listening!! :D

Or.......here's a better idea.......learn how to play better. ;)

Yea I've been working on that also :D I've learned a lot of what doesn't work from trying to mix my own pathetic drum tracks. It's really been eye opening as to how much practice I need! LOL! I've said a few times I bet engineers who've recorded me in the past have probably used up more then a couple of boxes of mf'ers on me.

mix seems VERY wide but other than that it sounds pretty good. Though I can agree with what most everyone else said. Drums are spread out a little to much for my taste but I really wanted to say that I dig your singer. I think he has an amazing voice. He has great potential don't kick em out.

;)
