Hey, I'm new to this website. I am the bassist in a 4 piece rock band (drums, 2 guitars, me), and I am also in charge of recording/mixing/etc (recording for fun, not for making money). I know a decent bit about recording; I already have a Line 6 UX2 recording interface for recording guitars, and I hook up an SM57 for recording drums (can't really afford more mics at the moment). Our recording setup is not the best, as we record in the drummer's living room, which is not set up for recording:). Anyway, our guitar recordings are satisfactory for now; my main complaint is making the drums sound good. I'm mostly alright with how they sound for the setup we're recording with, except for the kick/bass drum hits. They sound quite similar to punching a giant mole rat in the stomach. I've attached an MP3; I would appreciate advice on how to make the bass drum/rest of the track sound better (mixing tips are preferred, but if I honestly need another mic or something I won't be offended). I thought I should post here instead of one of the mixing forums just because it's more of a general question on a sample track. Thanks in advance.

That actually does not sound that bad for one mic. Though-you know what is coming....

Thanks. Got any EQ suggestions or anything? Also, any bass drum mic suggestions (or other mics if you think they make a bigger deal)?
