I like the vocals.
Drums is a little "dirty" (maybe (no)room treatment,or even is your intention,or my references are so clean, don´t know:D)...anyway the right channel pan is interesting, almost "White Album".:)

I´m not hearing the bass guitar ... needs gain (a lot).

thanks for listening.

yeah i am actually a fan of the beatles 'hard panning' mixes. they sound great to me. almost like each part of the band is on different sides of the room. i know some people dislike it.

i remixed it and even changed the vocals. let me know what you think:)

Pretty good song. I personally don't like this kind of mix. You're not The Beatles and this isn't 1964. This song would sound great with a more contemporary mix. At least get the drums in stereo. I think you're selling yourself short with a mix like this.

Rickson

I listened your second version .
Sorry, I saw no improvement, now you put the drums on center and its clear than your stereo image had a lot to do with the "Beatles" pan...

Don´t know how you recorded the drums (how many mics,...).

I asked about the bass guitar in my first post, but now I can see that song don´t have a bass guitar (or is almost inaudible)...New mix on drums seems not wide enough...without the bass is impossible to be sure.

Take care, Rickson, this is my "666" post!
(altough the last thing I want is fight with you, Rickson Gracie ):D

Ciro - every system i test the cd on the bass is there. are you listening with small computer speakers? obrigado for listening:)

im only using two mics on the drums and im really liking the simple drum mic setup. in order to get a stereo image i need to pan the kick slightly to one side. i used to have every drum miced along with a stereo pair of OH condensors when i tracked with PT LE

hey the beatles are the beatles and you dont have to be the beatles to be influenced by them use elements that you like. 1964 was a great year for music i would say probably better than 2008!

Sorry bud, but panning the kick doesn't give you a stereo image.

If you're using two mics, use them as overheads and you'll get a realistic stereo image. Or don't. Totally up to you.

i appreciate your feedback. that was the point of this thread BUT general rules about panning can and DO get broken if the producer likes the way it sounds.

micing the kick and the snare gives me the "oomph" of the kick and strong snap of the snare which i believe are the most important elements of the drums for this song.

if the beatles, george martin and geoff emerick did things like everyone else did at the time god knows where we would be today with recording.

Break all the "rules" you want. But never does a kick panned to one side sound good.

If you set up your overheads correctly, you can get all the "oomph" and "snap" you want - without it sounding unnatural and weird.

The Beatles did what they did because they didn't know any better. There are lots of early stereo recordings from lots of artists that have the drums on one side, bass on the other, etc. Stereo was a new thing and they went crazy with it back then. As people came to their senses, mixes started to sound better and more realistic. You wanna worship the Beatles? Totally cool. But even as they progressed (if you can call it that) their mixes started sounding more normal. I'm just telling you this as a listener. Your song sounds weird as it is. It's a good song. I just feel that you could do it justice with a better tracking/panning strategy.

Are 5" monitors, but working in a room treated with a good amount of bass traps and clouds...After a (lot of) measurements I´m having a decent bass response to judge things (+/-5,5 db 52/170 hz and
+/-3db between 180/600 hz).

If bass Guitar works for you,ok. You said is there...It´s not my opinion...I really fell the BD "alone".

Wait for other opinions.:)
