OK, if you were recording drums with an SM57 or an Audix I5 on the snare and you didn't like the way either sounded... would you

A) Grab a Shure 57 Beta

or

B) Grab a M201

I have a $300 gift certificate and it's gonna be one

Thanks SSR, one vote for a M201... and a dig against my beloved 57s...

I think I missed the cut-off, but... mister.

Mister.

:D:D:D:D:D:D

But seriously... AKG D190E for the snare and/or change your overheads or the position thereof.

How much do M201's usually go for new? There's some "knock-offs" on eBay for $100 which look exactly like mine. Thinking about selling mine but I'm going to give it one last hurray today.

FWIW, I liked the M201 more than the SM57 on snare every time I used them, but I may end up liking something like a SDC or a B1 or something over a dynamic.

:) Do they still make Mr. Microphones? That'd be sweet!

Yareek, the only place I've found them is musicians friend, for $250. They're on back order right now 2-4 weeks though.

Don't know of any other reliable places...guess there's always ebay.

Full Compass, but you need to call them for the real price.

... I'd quit blaming the mic and either tune the existing snare how I wanted it, change the head, buy a new one, or all three.

A little sharp tongued don’t you think?

I was just trying to start a light-hearted thread about two mics. I have the money, I'm gonna buy one and I thought it might be fun.

Oh and Merry Christmas!

FUCK YOU dude! If you can't tune a drum, you should just shoot yourself and all of your family members, because you're worthless! SCUM!

:D

Seriously, though, what kind of snare and what kind of sound are you looking for, and what do you not like about it? Curious.
And if you love Christmas so much, why don't you just Marry Christmas? oouch, that was bad. :o

You're killin' me :)

Actually the drummer I record most has a Black Beauty that we both love the sound of with the I5. That's my blues/rock/funk project. The other guy (a more rocker guy) has a Tama Warlord that he carries around in a freakin' coffin looking case like it's the nuclear football. With him, I've always been pretty happy with a good ol' sm57. We can get a pretty good metal/hard rock sound for his project...when I have the stomach for it that is.

My thought on a new mic for snare was just to have one other option for that "what if" scenario that might come up someday. And to be honest, I'm fairly happy the mics options I have at other positions... until I have a couple grand to throw at a new vocal mic that is.

I'd heard good things about the beta57 and the M201 and wanted to see who was awake last night and felt like voting.

Off to Marry/Merry Christmas now.

You asked what I / we would do, and I gave you a straight and honest answer. :D That just so happens to be what I would do!

Merry Christmas to you, too, and have fun mic shopping.

Fair enough... though I have to wornder, did you offer short answers when given multiple choice quizes in college?

However you do bring to mind a good counterpoint. If I'm not displeased, perhaps I could use the $300 gift certificate elsewhere... but man I like mics.

Alright, Nate. Since you like quizes so much ... Which of the following authored the Declaration of Independence? a) George Washington, b) John Adams, or c) George Bush?

Don't answer! It's a trick question! (He forgot the "W" in selection c)

Interesting... though not a fair comparison. Your question is nothing like mine of course. A question pertaining to historical facts vs. a question of future decisions and oppinions are quite different.

Now the REAL question is "Do you think Thomas Jefferson is rolling over in his grave knowing that he is part of probably one of the silliest exchanges this board has ever seen?"

BTW, your website is cracking me up!
