Hey guys I'm going to be buying a Presonus Firepod for a mobile laptop recording station type thing. Would a Sempron 2800+ with 512 Megs of ram and both a decent internal and fast external harddrive work well enough to get 20-30 tracks down all with realtime gating, eqing, compression, and lexicon reverb? If that's gonna bog it down, how about 8 drum tracks simultaneously and 8 guitar tracks following that with the forementioned plug ins?

Thanks a lot.

your asking something that there is little info about.
as the sempron is so new.
a sempron SHOULD do 40 tracks easy. BUT you might want to try before you buy. also - not all laptops are created equal.
depends on the manufacturers implementations.

if possible get 7200 rpm internal hard drive.
and one KEY point check with presonus FIRST that the firepod is compatible with the firewire implementation in the laptop your looking at.
frankly i would try the firepod with the laptop at the dealers place
before laying down the money. this is what i do with helping friends sound stuff interface to new computers.
you might have smooth total sailing, but on the other hand depending on laptop yopu might get issues. so - i advise try before you buy.
myself i'm currently looking at amd 64 laptops.peace.
ps...dont let me dissuade you from a sempron.
its a pretty fast little devil and its cheap.

Thanks a lot... I haven't purchased the firepod or laptop yet... so I figure I'll get the laptop and order the firepod and if it doesn't work return it. Hopefully all works out.

Thanks.
