Ok The Presonus Firepod has 8 Mic Preamps

The Rme Fireface has 4 ....

Yet the Fireface is almost twice the price of the Firepod....

I can afford to buy the Firepod now .... but everyone on this forum keep raving about how good the preamps and converters are on the fireface ...

What should I do???

I just got the firepod. As soon as the longer firewire cable comes in, I'll tell you how it sounds. (it needs a 6 pin to 6 pin FW cable, and the one it comes with is only 4 feet long!)

lengths of firewire cables affect the use of the outboard gear...4 ft. is probably optimal for the firepod.

Take a look at the Mackie 400F . 8 channels , 4 with great Onyx pre's , all with balance line in and 2 are switchable to instrument level . Plus some digital inputs , midi , word clock , S/PDIF .

The Pre Sonus FirePods are going for about $600.00 US right now and the Mackie is about $700.00 .

Mackie Onyx 400F

I us ethe Firepod and love it. In fact, I have a second one that I am getting ready to set up and have 16 inputs!

Your paying for way more than just the preamps (which are probably better on the Fireface), but also far superior conversion, 2 ADAT ins, some of the best driver support and stability there is, and the Total Mix Software mixer

With all that said, I own a Firepod (and used to own a Fireface) and they are both great pieces of gear. Don't worry about needing a Fireface, I got one and realized that I didn't need all that horsepower, so I got the Firepod instead, and I love it.

I really hope it's not that much of an issue, I don't want to rebuild my studio around a 4' cable. My longer cable came today, will set it up tomorrow, (if this fucking flu ever subsides...)
