I know, apples and oranges and all that but...

From users only please: what are the opinions on these units? Anyone having problems with compatibility or anything?

I don't really need the preamps but they'd be nice for location recording if needed. The conversion is my main concern, I know the Fireface will be better in that department but is it $1000 better? The Firepod has the ability to cascade multiple units making a 16 input mobile rig for $1200, not bad. I am also considering an HD24 since using one I have fallen for it so maybe the ADAT I/O of the fireface would be worth the extra cash.

Anyhow, if you like the converters or even better have heard both to compare let me know what you think.

I have had my firepod for while now and i find myself using it all the time.
its easy to setup and use and sounds pretty darn good.

the Preamps - Clean, accurate... dont color the sound at all.

Latency - Low. I keep my latency on my laptop at 6ms while recording at 24 bit resolution and it keeps up fine.

The one bad thing that i have noticed: the headphone output is ungodly bright. I have not used the 1/4" main outputs yet, so i cannot comment on the quality of the D/A converters... I would be willing to hear about other people's experiences too.

Hope that helped!

Thanks Mang...funny sig. Very inside HRC joke there.

Got any finished mixes recorded with the Firepod?

Hmmm..
'finished' would be a loose term as far as this recording goes, but the other day i quickly did a few instrumental tracks for 2 different songs... they are nowhere near complete, but take them for what they are.

So far, i have gotten clean results from the firepod's preamps. No synthics at all. :D
All-in-all, its just a really convenient unit to have around sometimes.

Hope this helped.
Dont let some of my inferior trackage scare you off from a good interface. ;)

Good luck

I think the synthics got me, the links there seem to go nowhere.

Here is a quickie tune using the Fireface.

Pay no attention to the drummers timing, its my 11 yr old.

I cant say enough good things about the unit. Huge improvement over my 1010. The preamps are very usable. I tracked the guitars and drums with them. Its more money but it is worth every penny. I got mine for $1199.00.

Hey Jake... I like the Firepod... but I liked the aardvark Q10 more (never used the fireface). The firepod is a bit less stable and the pres sound thinner to me. That said, I've had little trouble with it and have made some nice sounding stuff with it.
