Hi All,
I am looking around at buying a new PC recording setup soon, and am having trouble deciding on what to get. 80% of the time i will probably be recording solo acoustic fingerstyle guitar, though at times i may be recording an irish ensemble of flute, fiddle, guitar, etc. I had an Mbox in the past but sold it because i was moving and needed the money. I have not worked extensively with many other software programs other than Pro Tools.
Basically i think my main decision is do i want to stick with PT or not. I am comfortable with it, i like the editing features, but i am sure most other similar software programs have those same features. I got a chance to use an 002 recently, and liked it fine. Four inputs and pre's will do me fine for a while, and i can get another pre to use with the line level inputs, or something with lightpipe out to plug into the 002. Plus the 002 already comes with a full version of PT.
I like the firepod because it includes eight inputs and pre's, which would probably be all i would need. the last time i used Cubase was years ago, and i cant remember much about it. I assume i would eventually have to upgrade beyond the included Cubase LE, but isnt it able to record at least four tracks at a time?
So thats my decision. the firepod is initally cheaper, though i would have to eventually upgrade the software. The 002R has everything included, but its a bit more expensive. Also if i wanted track more than four mics at i time i would have to aquire an additional preamp.
