Is the headphone jack on the Firepod loud enough for a recording drummer to listen to a scratch track plus click while he plays? Or should I get a headphone amp? Maybe I should get a headphone amp either way so we can run multiple headphones and multiple mixes? Any suggestions on a budget headphone amp?

I would say it mostly depends on what phones you were using. If they give a tight enough seal you won't need much volume headroom. If they are about as good as cottonballs then you'll need an amp.

I would do a headphone amp anyhow though. My use with the firepod heaphone jack has given it some good, sufficient volume, but you may need more at some point. You'd hate to be in a position where you stop the creative juices to wait until you can procure a HP amp.

behringer just came out with a dirt cheap one, check out their website.

The firepod headphone volume is plenty for me (it goes up to 11).

I also use a pair of industrial strength ear protectors which almost totally block the noise from the drums

My FirePod output is split two ways---one for a wireless set and one across to a wired jack in my jack panel by the drum set. Still plenty of power. I do, however, strongly recommend special high-isolation headphones intended for. Otherwise you will almost certainly damage your hearing at the levels needed.

There are a bunch of such headphones out there. AFAIK, they're all pretty much your standard hearing protectors with part of the insides scooped out and a cheap speaker element put in. :)
