Firebox Mixer Problem?

Just got my firebox today (hooray) and I'm encountering a slight problem.

The only time I can get sound out of it is when the "Mix to Phones" (the zero latency monitoring) is enabled. I just tried to test with a guitar plugged in direct to the mic/instrument input 1. I tried with Amplitube, Reaper, and even media player (just playing an MP3), and I get no sound at all until the zero latency monitor is enabled (in which case, I just hear the guitar unprocessed).

Any suggestions firebox owners?

Heh you're getting more sound out of it than i can. I can get the clipping light to come on if i turn up the gain on the channel but no sound comes out into my headphones. Hopefully one of us figures it out.

If you are using Reaper, you probably need to enable monitoring on the track you are recording within Reaper.

I already did that. I get no sound, and the input meters are blank. No movement on the meter with monitoring on or off.

Here's what mine looks like right now.
Got all the Outs configured/selected to the mains?

Aside from all of the faders on mine being all the way up, it looks identical. When the "Mix to Phones" button is down, I hear everything that's going in, but when any other output for the phones is selected, silence.

As you can see I bypass the mixer.

I can't really think of a use for it.

Anyway...I never really worried too much about the Firebox software mixer....those are my settings...everything works fine for me....I can playback, record, live input monitor....

I know how to use it for avoiding latency lag when over-dubbing. Still, I've never needed it for that. I mostly use it to dial down the software playback volune. :idk:

Why don't you just do that in your software? Just use the master and bring the vol down. Or why not just turn the knob on the Firebox down. I do that.

Not sure if it will help you guys, but I solved my problem by completely uninstalling (not just disabling) my current realtek motherboard sound driver then reinstalling the firebox drivers AND redoing the firmware update.

Good news...

And bad news....

The problem isn't the firebox. On a whim, I stole my wife's new(er) laptop today and installed the drivers. Firebox works like a charm. It would appear that my Franken-puter has some sort of conflict somewhere. I don't know what it could be, because I've used 2 different Firewire cards (Both with a TI chipset), disabled (then just physically removed and uninstalled) my old Soundblaster Audigy card, completely wiped the HD and reinstalled windows...

Still no good on my (quickly becoming) ancient desktop.

It's cool though. I worked out a deal with my wife that we can trade laptops, since all she really uses it for is MS Office and the internet. I'm sure she'll constantly remind me when things need done around the house forever, though. "Remember when I gave you my laptop?"

Heh and today we mourned another man lost to the demon realm known as "under the thumb"

Whoa...
I was thinking Toonook's solution was kinda drastic. :)

Anyway, glad to hear you've both worked it out. My Firebox has been a tank.

Same here...

While we are on the subject of the Firebox, can anyone tell me the easiest/ best way of determining if your Firebox is running at 24bit recording?

You know they have that 2.46 or something driver update, which I installed...but on the Firebox mixer it still tells me driver version 1.0

I recall they had to release some driver update to actually get the Firebox to produce actual 24bit.

Anyway, my basic question is: How can I tell if my Firebox is running at 24bit?

thanks
