I cant believe it!!! and you probably wont believe it either.

I just read Scott Garrigus' SONAR POWER book and learned how to apply effects while recording within SONAR. and not the usual sit there for a half an hour while the computer porcesses the data either. its AMAZING!!!! I AM IMPRESSED.....
and to think i went out and spent $500 beans on the HHB burnit so i could apply my reverb, delays, etc. from my alesis quadreverb so it can be recorded in realtime.
i am actually able to change effects on the fly while playing back the audio that i recorded. and i thought this was only available if i record midi. GOD DAMM!!! what a great program... i owe it all to Scott Garrigus' SONAR POWER book.
Here's the link-

i'm not sure if you are doing this already, but you can also record tracks with plugs in for monitoring in real time if you have the right sound card and WDM drivers. e.g., with the ReValver guitar plug in you can play it like a real amp and record tracks with it in real time ....since the recorded track is 'dry' you can change the settings on the plug in , and remix...you can then mix it all down with the guitar running thru the plug in or permanently apply the effect to that single track...i got Sonar for this reason....however, after all the headaches with Sonar and WDM on Windows ME, i'm glad to see that there may be an alternative coming soon for recording guitars on PC http://www.line6.com/main/main.cfm

and i was just about to get Windows XP for the WDM support.
