alright boys and girls...

a reminder of my equipment:
DELTA44 (new!)
mxl603s (2) for overheads (new!)
sm57 on snare
sm57 on guitars (all recorded seperate)
direct bass through mixer
sm58 for vox
at pro25 for kick drum
that should be it i think.

anyway: 2 songs out of 5 up at www.angelfire.com/emo/shackrockinc/homerec.html

"sorry song" and "stealing the end"

as for the music itself and the playing of all the parts - dont tell me about it, its not my band, lol. These guys are 13-16 years old - and I'd say it's halfway decent at least, better then i expected them to do! ha.

but i want HARSH HARSH HARSH comments on the recording/mixing! I wanna know your secrets! haha.

also i have Ozone, but it is on none of my tracks yet - so if you think you have an idea what i should to with that at the end, thats cool too. thanks again.

sounds good for 13-16 year olds... but the vocals are too quiet in both songs (more so in the first song)... and they're also too dry.. they need to be... you know.. "brightened up".. and... stuff... :p And maybe spread oat a little. :p

The drums are also a little too "distant".. they sound like they're being played from another room. Maybe compress em better.. or.. uh... EQ em so they stand oat more in the mix... or.. something...

(Notice how I can always tell what's wrong.. but not how to fix it... :D)

Over-all.. pretty decent.

1st song....ROLL OFF the low end on the guitars...it will help tremedously on the chuncky parts. Dito WATYF's comments on compressing and eq'ing the drums. You might want to look into getting a better vocal mic (or at least hype up some high end on these tracks, and compress the vocals.)

2nd song...well...you've reached your bandwidth limit on angelfire...so I'll have to listen later!

shisty...when that comes back up - i'll make a few mirror sites, lol.

however - any "start me off's" for compression on drum tracks? lol what settings should i start with that is?

I'm just an amateur, but for what it's worth:

Turn the vocals up :)

The low end is a bit muddy. Definitely roll off the lows on the "chugging" guitars - they're a bit boomy just now, and clash with the bass and kick.

Also, the kick is a bit too boomy, and is overlapping with the bass. Try and cut the region round about 80Hz, bring up the "attack" of the kick drum a bit, and leave in some of the very low end. Or something.

It would be worth re-doing wee bits of the vocals, where the intonation isn't spot on.

Hope this helps
