Thanks to all for the previous advice, I have stuff now. I am going to save the details for exactly what stuff until after I post some samples. That will hopefully dissipate any prejudices that may exist towards some of the gear I bought, and encourage opinions to be on sound alone. I will say it is 2 LDC cardiods=stereo preamp=cd recorder. It may take 2 weeks, it may take 2 years. The whole point of buying my own gear was to not have to work against the clock.
I have a fairly large living room. It is carpeted, but has a vaulted ceiling and the entire wall on one end is stone fireplace. Classical guitar sounds great in that room. And I can position my new rig close to my home stereo and use it for playback.
The room itself is very quiet, but I will probably have to wait until spring to do any serious recording when the furnace is not running. I will use the time between now and then to experiment with levels and mic placement. I also may have to find a way to baffle the openings, one goes to the kitchen (refrigrator), the other goes to the dining room where there is an aquarium. Maybe find a way to hang large moving blankets over the openings? There are other rooms in the house which will be easier to treat and isolate, but this one sounds really good.
Any thoughts and feedback is appreciated, Ken
