Hi folks. I've been lurking here for a while and finally became stoked enough to actually register so I can post!
Well, long story short, I've been using a Roland VS2480 for about a year. I really do love the technology these days (the convenience of it), but was really missing something that I couldn't put my finger on.
Well, I bought a Tascam 32 reel to reel off of ebay, and after a cleaning and demag I did some rough mixes to it (as opposed to going to dat or the computer).
It just sounds Kick Butt!
I'm not sure if I'll end up going all the way analog. (I'm kind of poor at the moment), but I must say that mixing to analog tape is giving some real depth to this stuff that it was missing.
So now it's time to do the calibrations and biasing (yes I used to do this stuff back in the day), then we all (the band) agree that we will mix to the 32, then send that to the computer for editing and burn the CD to send off for dupes.
One more thing. When I bought the unit and hooked it up, it sounds great! But better yet, I just so happened to have the matching DBX unit (DX-2D) for it, but didn't realize it until after doing the rough mixes.
I am VERY excited about this entire development.
Hello to everyone here. I am hoping to make some good friends in the community!!!!

Very cool! Your excitement has made me want to stop procrastinating about getting my Tascam 38 back up and running properly.

I hope you enjoy your time here. I'm fairly new here myself but I've enjoyed every minute. Even those DJL moments.
