Finalizing on Nero...

Hey, I just had this problem starting yesterday.

Any cd I burn using Nero now is not playing in any cd player or even being recognized. When I put it in my stereo is read back saying 'Not finalized.'

I use the wizard to burn my cds which automatically does finalizing, I thought. I have never had any problems before with finalizing and I'm doing the exact same things I used to do.

The only difference there is is that I got a legit copy of XP professional that I installed and got all of the service packs and updates, but I don't see why that would mess with some other program.

Does anybody know how after I burn a cd I can get it 'finalized?'

What version of Nero are you using? Are there updates on the Ahead website?

Go to the Ahead website and download the updates, and see if it helps.

Open Nero Burning Rom, click on "Help" and then click on "Ahead on the web" it'll send you to Aheads website look for updates not upgrades and choose the updates for the version you have.

Okay, I'm really pissed. This is bugging the crap out of me.

I used Windows Media Player and burned my CD-RW and it worked. Then the second time I did it today it gave me the not finalized crap.

Then I downloaded the new Nero Demo. Same thing, not finalized.

What the hell is finalizing? Is there something that's messing this up since it's a CD-RW?

Dammit, I want to check my mixes in other places.

This is why I hate consumer burning software...

At the very least, if you're not writing in "DAO (Disc At Once)" mode, you're not going to get it to work on much of anything.

Don't trust the wizard...

If you're already in DAO and it worked before, I can't tell you much. Other than yes, not a whole bunch pf players will recognize CD-RW's - Especially after the initial burn.

Well that's the thing that's pissing me off. This has worked at least ten times before, then it didn't. The Windows Media Player burner worked before, too. Now it doesn't. I don't see why things randomly just decide to stop finalizing the cd.

Just out of clickeyosity, I looked at your site...

If you've got WaveLab 4, why in Gawd's name would you use Nero for burning discs?

That's like driving a Suzuki Samurai when you've got a Jeep Grand Cherokee sitting in the garage...

Because I've always used nero and didn't really think there would be a difference in burning on WaveLab. I was just sticking with what I was familiar with.

Actually I remember now. For some reason I can't get WaveLab to see my CD writer so I can't write the cd after I have it all set up.

When I use the Nero Wizard, Finalize is NEVER automatically checked. I have to tic the finalize checkbox right before I burn. When using the wizard again, the finalize checkbox always reverts back to being unchecked. I've forgotten to tic the box a couple times and then wonder why the hell my cd's don't play!

Is there a check in Finalize checkbox? That sounds obvious, so my apologies if I'm undermining your intelligence.

Well here's the deal: It always worked before. Why would it just stop checking finalize now for no reason?

That's what's getting me.

And now that I used Wavelab to burn the cd once, it's not working now.

It seems each program will let me burn on the CD-RW once and then all other times it gives me a not finalized thing.

IRRITATING.
