hello
Well, I just ordered a SHARP MD-MS722 (see it here: http://www.minidisco.com/minispecs/sharp722.html)
recorder from minidisco.com, they were having a sale. I'm hoping to use it for making recordings of live shows (with permission, of course. Has anyone else tried this? I also want to record sounds from the environment such as construction zones, heavy traffic, what have you.
There was an article in homerecording magazine about using pocket sized recorders for such tasks, and I found some useful info about mics and such. http://www.soundprofessionals.com hasa cool little stereo T mic which might come in handy. But I'm anxious to see how a live recording will turn out.
Anyone have any good ideas of where to hide the recorder to avoid it being found when I get frisked at the front door of a show? Not that I would use such information, because I HAVE PERMISSION TO RECORD THE SHOW. I figure if the mic is small enough I could put it in my shoe, and maybe pose the recorder as my wallet.
Another interesting thing I found out is a little fact about ATRAC. I guess it doesnt simple "throw out" the 80% of data taken from the original sound, but compresses it down - a lot-. So 20% of the sound is original, uncompressed data, while its the less or non audible sounds are compessed. I didnt know that, I assumed all that data was just thrown out.
Anyway, this isnt an essay, so I'll shut up.
