Ferrograph 631

I have a ferrograph 631 which has just started to run slow, when playing a pre recorded tape ai 3.3/4 ips, the other 2 speeds are fine. when I pull on the arm that holds the idler spring it picks up speed but when I release it again it slows down again any ideas on what I need to do would be appreciated.

Thanks for that information what is meant by rebuilding.

Removing the original rubber and recoating it with a similar material of the exact same thickness. Terry's Rubber Rollers can do this. From my searches last night, I believe there was also a UK firm which specialised in this for Ferrograph machines, but I don't remember the name.
 
Guy in Hattiesburg Missisippi does the same thing. Should be around the Web somewhere.
