i'd appreciate any comments on this guitar from anybody has owned or had experience with one....

thx in advance

I won one from ebay to use as a backup for gigging. It has'nt arrived yet but I'll let you know what I think of it when it arrives. Apparently it does'nt fit a standard hardshell case though. The seller is trying to locate a case that fits, which is holding up shipping.

A guy I know owns a fernandes strat copy and it's a very solid, well made guitar. I've owned a few real strats and that fernandes copy is built just as good. It could use a change of pickups but in my opinion so could real strats. I bought the retrorocket based on good reviews every where and my experience with my friend's strat copy. We'll see how it goes.

I have never owned a Retrorocket but I do have a Dragonfly X and a Reyna acoustic. Fernandes aren't bad guitars. They look good and for the most part, sound good, too! And even though it is an X series, you shouldn't be missing much from the Pro or Elite ones. Usually, the only difference in the series in the manufacturer of the pu's, the addition/absence of the Sustainer system and maybe the neck-thru option. They usually use all the same woods so you should have no problem with sustain or tonal inconsistencies in that department.

I love my Dragonfly. I've had it since early '03 and I haven't had any sort of internal/external problems. Sure... The washer on the input has come loose everyonce and a while but that is easily fixed. One thing I must say is that the paint chips fairly easily. So, if you're rough with your gear and you really care about looks, you might want to think about something else. But personally... If you could get some extra cash, try to get a Revolver or a Dragonfly... Even a Monterey (Les Paul look-alike). You won't be disappointed!

Just out of curiosity... Where do you plan to buy your Fernandes from?

well ive got a monterey x, its a great guitar, but as a previous poster stated, the input jack did come loose, and there are some minor flaws. overall great guitar though!

I got the retrorocket X-1 (three single coils) in yesterday and played around with it a bit. It's definately not built as well as an american strat but it's not built crappy either. The factory setup is pretty much flawless. The intonation is right on, the action is good (i think the factory strings are extra lights), and the pickups are all very well balanced. It would be an excellent first guitar or a good playing backup. The playability is alot better than the mexican strats or squiers.

The fingerboard is a little narrow but it's not a problem. The neck actually feels nice beside the fingerboard being just a little narrow. It's definately a comfortable neck and easy to get around on. The edges feel smooth, the frets are well dressed, and it kind of has a broke in feel. All the hardware seems solid enough, the neck pocket looks good, and the nut is cut pretty good for the factory strings. The body is supposedly alder and is a three piece with a thin finish, which I don't mind.

The pickups have kind of a week output and don't have the best treble response. The guitar did come with the pickups setup a little low for my taste and raising them a bit might improve the output and treble response. I will probably change the pickups in the long run. Also, the body of this guitar is a little oblong and does'nt fit a regular case made for a strat style body. It does'nt fit a Gator deluxe case either, which is a some what universal body case. Strange.

All in all, a fine guitar for $150 new, which is something that I've NEVER experienced. Tack on $200 for a set of fralin pickups and this would be a everyday player.
