I have recently bought a Ferguson 3204 Tape Deck for sentimental reasons, however after purchase I found that the rewind spool does not spin. I initially assumed it would just require a replacement belt however it appears more complicated. On removing the cover etc I discover that on pressing the rewind key - a lever with an elongated hole appears to be designed to move the spool to the right to engage with the main motor wheel. Without a working comparison I am not confident my assumption is correct. I have attached a photo showing the lever with the elongated hole - on my deck when the lever moves to the back of the deck the hole is too large to engage with the spool mechanism ?? - I am somewhat confused !!
Any help would be most welcome

I unfortunately can't help you, but I wanted nonetheless to welcome you to the forum and wish you luck with your machine. It looks like a cool one.

It's hard to tell from that picture as its not a head-on overhead perspective of the motor's rubber drive wheel, rubber cam/idler wheel and reel table sub platter, but if there's a gap there with the rewind function engaged, it likely means one of those rubber parts has shrunk with age and likely needs to be replaced. I realize finding the correct replacement parts would be difficult to source out but you might try placing an appropriate sized smaller rubber band around the motor's rubber drive wheel so as to thicken it up enough to make proper contact with the middle rubber wheel which would facilitate the contact needed to make the rewind function normally once again.

Cheers! :)

The pin that is through the elongated hole in the lever near centre of your photo, should have a suitable "e-ring" on it, similar to the one on the pivot to its left. The scuffing on the lever around the pin would suggest this.
