So I'm a drummer, but I'm working on a home studio, just for recording demos with my band and such. I'll be micing the amp with a sm57, and I've been offered a Fender Stage 112 SE Guitar Combo for $90. I've tried searching online for information about this amp, but I found NOTHING.

I want to know:
-will it be good for recording?
-how many watts is it?
-is $90 a good deal?
-any other advice :D

ALSO: How does it compare to the deluxe 122 ? I'll be using it for recording only, which one would be better?

Thanks

Dude, How hard did you search? Just google "Fender stage 112 SE". Loads of info available... Reviews, a pdf of the owners manual, etc.

I haven't verified, but 1 of the user reviews listed it as solid state 120W and stated his price paid as $350US. The review was from 2005. So, either he got ripped off, or your $90 price is a good deal, assuming good condition and you trus the seller. That said, whether it would be a good recording amp or not will depend on what kind of tones you want. If classic rock/blues I think you may be disappointed. Wouldn't reside in the same universe as a Deluxe. For some sounds it might be pretty good, though.

I would buy a modeler of some kind. You can find them for $90... like the Digitech jobs, or maybe a used Pod... there are many out there.

You will get more tones with a modeler than with that one amp. The amp will probably only be good for a certain type of sound, and the modeler will be more versatile.

Just my opinion! (I did recently play one of the new Fender Mustangs ($200 40 watt) and it was pretty awesome.

Fender made a truckload of SS 112 amps in the late 90's, all different kinds of configurations- and probably none of them are known for their "tone." Great "workingman's" amps, but nothing to write home about. $90 is a decent deal, but the amp is not gonna be great for recording. Decent, yes. Great, no.

Modeler? Yeah, I guess, if you only have $100 or less to spend. REALLY good guitar tone comes out of a tube amp, but you won't find many for $90...
