In the market for a portable, battery powered PA system for our campus outdoor activities. I've looked at several...these Fender Passport systems look adequate for our uses, wondered if anyone had used them, had any feedback, etc. (or knows of other systems) in the $1,000.00 and under range.

Thanks

Thought I'd revive this thread to see where it goes...

I'm looking for a small, powerful PA system that I can take with me. I'm gravitating towards the Fender Passport 250, but I'm not thrilled with the mixer.

As I already have a mixer (CFX-12), I was thinking about a Passport powered speaker expander, which is the same as the Passport 250 without the mixer (actually, two of them in a daisy chain - 500 watts, four speakers). Each system breaks down into a big suitcase - type unit that can be moved with one hand. The mixer has basic effects and an onboard graphic EQ for sounding the room. Not quite the same as outboard EQ, but it all fits under the arm.

As this is for acoustic music and bluegrass / acoustic bands in small venues, one night, etc., it might do the trick. I'm particularly interested in the small speaker arrays.

Has anyone actually done this? Am I blowing smoke?

I checked that out when it first came out. I was suprised at the volume it cound create in a small room. But I would never think of using it outdoors, or even a very big room. The small speakers just don't have the punch to drive the sound very far. For acoustic settings, i.e. in a bookstore or coffeshop, they would work great I think.
