I have to buy a new amp, I am on a bit of a thight budget but i really want a tube amp. I am considering the Fender Hotrod Deluxe 112, because it has an affordable price (about €700) and I really am fond of the Fender clean.

y questions:

1) Anyone have any experience with this amp? good or bad?

2) Is it loud enough to use in a band rehearsel (only one speaker, 40watts). I mean, my band can ply pretty loud and I don't want to drown.

3) Are there any alternatives in that price range?

Thanks!

Yes, it's loud enough for practice.

Yes, it's a good tube amp.

BUT!.... it's nowhere NEAR as versatile as the Vox AD50VT, which sounds just as great and has a shitload more options at a lesser price.

Thx for the help Buck! The Vox isn't a tube amp though, and I have been craving for a tube amp that long that I'm going to follow my guts:). How does the Vox AC30 stand in this?

I've been browsing through some internet reviews and the distorted sound doesn't seem to popular. Man, I have yet to find the first amp with a cool clean and distored sound.

anyopne else some suggestion?

I used to have Deluxe, its 2nd channel is useless imo. It hum'med and squeltched a lot. It was a great amp if you just drove the main channel hard.

I wouldn't put the clean on the same level as "the Fender clean" sound that they are famous for, but it is still nice.

My suggestion....if you get it, drive the main channel hard and roll off the guitars volume to clean up the sound.

Well, it's actually a tube hybrid amp.

Make sure you try one before you pre-judge it's sound, I think you'll be quite surprised.

Try a Traynor, either this, or this one
the 50 watt has a master volume control, el34 tubes and better/more distortion, the 40 watt still has way better distortion than the fender but not as good as the 50 watt and the 40 doesnt have a master volume, but does have effects loop and presence. Both have spring reverb. The 50 watt costs about a hundred more, you should definitely try them if you can find them.

the Vox AD50VT is a cool amp but it is NOT a tube amp and when you compare them side by side (i did this with teh AD30T) the vox still sounds like a modeiling amp. ive tried to record with the AD30T which is basicily the same amp as the AD50T with a bit less power and i couldnt get the guitar to sit well in the mix. i could easily tell that its a modeling amp. It is a cool amp though.

the hot rod deluxe is PLENTY loud enough to play with drums and a band. you cant substitute a real tube amp such as the HRD with a modeling amp. this is why you pay so much more for tube amps.

i prefer the tone of the fender blues jr which is only 15 watts but to each his own.

I have a hot rod deville. Its basically the same as a hot rod deluxe with a little more power. I have never gotten my hot rod deville past 5....and 5 is loud as hell. I think the HRdeluse would be plenty of power.

Here is a song where im playing lead through the hot rod deville.

Ummmm..... it's AD30VT and AD50VT.

For a guy who claims to know so much about their tone, you sure don't know their model names. Perhaps you've confused them with a different Vox amp?

No, it's because the tubes and the chassis cost more. Also, the wiring is often done by hand on tube amps, rather than machines... meaning higher labor costs.

people dont pay the extra cash for a real tube amp for no reason at all. its because they sound different. WAY different. i owned the voxtonelab and the the 30 watt version of the amp you are boasting about and they both went BACK to guitar center. i also have the often praised Guitar Rig modeling plugin by native instruments and thats not really usable in recording either. although its very cool to just mess around with.

the AD30VT is a good versatile amp for the money but it aint no tube amp. THATS why you pay the extra cash.

now i have a fender blues jr for the "fendery" sounds and a gibson goldtone GA5 for the more gritty sounds and i never looked back.

by the way the fender hot rod deluxe is NOT handwired and i think its built somewhere on mexico.

I wasn't referring to the Hot Rod Deville specifically, I'm talking about higher end tube amps. Many of them are hand-wired in the USA, obviously driving up the cost due to labor. The Gibson tube amps are a good example of this.

Thx for the help all. this clip won't play though :(

I've owned both a Blues Jr. and a Hot Rod Deville 2 x 12. Both are made in Mexico, and the Hot Rod series amps from Fender are great amps in my opinion. I've been playing for 35 years and would consider these to be great amps, with great clean tones and reverb, and a nice distortion. Listen to a deluxe before you buy it though, as it's pretty subjective and depends on what YOU are looking for.
