Have any of you guys tried the fender 57/62 reissue pickups? I don't really like the beveled magnets (they are TOO beveled), but I was wondering how the pickups sound and if anyopne was using them.

I have a set in a mid-'90s American Standard strat. Made a huge difference. It actually sounds like a strat.

I had a conversation with a Fender rep when the new American series came out. He said Fender was heading back towards a more original Fender sound. For a long time they had been voicing their pickups towards a more neutral sound, to let people get a more modern sound. With the new stuff, they are heading back to more traditional strat sounds. So it kind of depends on what model you already have. I found the biggest improvements in positions 2, 4, and the bridge only. They do have a bit less output than the standard pickups, though. I had to raise them a little higher.

I like the traditional fender sound. I red that they really put alot of research and effort into those 57/62 pickups...and think im going to give them a try.
thanks

Well, Fri I went ahead and bought one, and put in in the middle position on my '66 strat. Compared to the grey bobbin original '66 pickup, it has a little more high end sparkle and a little less thump on the low end. Thats probably correct, because the black bobbin pickups of the late 50's and early 60's had a little more sparkle and quack than the grey bobbin pickups of the late 60's and early 70's.
Man, its really outstanding on the delicate stuff like "little wing" and "Lenny"
Wow, tone to die for there!

I give these "original 59/62 fender pickups" a "10" :)
