Hello everyone. I really wish I found this website BEFORE I deceided to record my band and release a CD. I've been stuck like glue here for the past few days learning all kinds of good stuff!

Well, here is the link to hear my first attempt at home recording my band..

www.myspace.com/thenonoboys

or here..

http://cdbaby.com/cd/nonoboys

I used the Yamaha AW16G for everything.. recording, mixing, mastering..

I'd love to hear some comments on how to make things better. Just from looking at this website for a few days, I see all kinds of things I should have done differently! Thanks in advance! I'm off to that ever popular microphone thread. So much info to absorb! :)

That's a sexy vocal sound. I listened to the streaming on CD Baby and my only criticism is that there was a noticeable lack of high freq transients on each track. The compression used didn't squash the high end but it did remove almost all the transients! Bet you sound incredible live but the recording is robbed of some the liveliness without the transients.

Go Univ. of N. Colorado, Greeley. My sister got her degree there.

Nice track, Bass seems a little.....muddy. It's not quite clear i guess. Actully all of the low end seems too muddy and nothing is really audible. Can't describe it. lol.

Also the kick drum could come up a tad, and vox down a tad.

But nice mix, and i like the song. :D

Sexy vocal and sexy lady!
I would work on the guitars to get a better sound. The guitars arent balanced well with the panning. YOu might need some more rythym guitar tracks to fill the gaps in the middle. The guitars sound quite distant. I would mic them as close as possible if you are using an amp. Lay off the reverb until you mix it so you can get more control over the reverb amount.

Thanks for all the input. The things mentioned were actually what I was having the hardest time with, so I'm glad some tips were mentioned. Getting a clean, crisp guitar sound and trying to get rid of the muddyness overall.

I've been takin' LOTS of notes from the mixing/mastering forum! :) Of course, I remember reading that getting a good sound in the first place is probably the best thing.. Mahalo!
