Hi, just wondering if anyone has anyspare time and would like to check out a song i mixed i'd appreciate any feedback (seriously please be ruthless). Its on www.myspace.com/verticleblinds and the song is called 'Better off with you' (should play automatically when the page starts up).

I'm a total noob to this and this is my first real band mix. I understand part of the sound quality issues come down to having below par equipment (Behringer 1202 Mixer & a 57, recorded track by track), but i'm a student and can't afford anything better atm so i'm just looking to improve the mix.....
Any tips on anything at all you notice no matter how obvious would be greatly appreciated....
thanks a million in advance
cheers

As a disclaimer I should say that I suck large, but let me say this:
1) The melody is catchy and the lead vocals are good for this type of music

but

2) The guitars, bass and drums are buried way deep in the mix and right down the center. You need to add some space, maybe a bit of panning, split up the drums (kick on a track, snare on a track, etc.,) They sound mono.

3) The backup/harmony vocal is pretty bad and introduces a ton of noise when it comes in

I'd redo it from scratch :)

k thankx i'll work on the spacial elements you mentioned.....as for the drums sounding mono its because they are :( sad i know, limiting yep, but im still at school and simply don't have the money....all i had was a 57 and some cheapish dynamic mic in the kick that was borrowed from my bassist.....the best i can really do to shape the drum sound is EQ which as you can probably hear, I havn't exactly mastered yet :)
thanks for the feedback i really appreciate it
