I scetched a melody tonight and are putting it up here.
Question is; is the melody line good enough? (both in verse, pre-chorus and chorus)
The words is something I sang directly from the top of my head so never mind those. The arrangement sucks and all and all its a piece of... lets call it a scetch shall we?
But the question remains; is the melody line good enough to work further on?
I cant figgy out and turn to you for some help.
The final vocal will be sung by a brilliant female vocalist, but feel free to comment my voice if you have to :)
Basically; the melody?
Here is the scetch

i reckon keep the male vocalist. i reckon tho that the bit that goes 'we should be living.....' could almost be a new song in itself. how bouts trying to keep the feel and the mood of the first part and building that into a song, then using the part i mentioned for something totally new?

i like the mood. you'll need to alter the piano a bit tho i guess, as two songs came into my head - 'miss you in a heartbeat' (def leppard) and 'drops of jupiter'.

i love the way the other instruments come in tho. good so far

as for the melody, it kinda gives a 'haunting' feel to the song

Hi EM,

I like what I heard so far. You can sing it too; I realize this is a throwaway track, but your voice is ok, maybe more so if you really let go.

This piece can go the 'quiet-but-intense' route, where the arrangement opens up with some implied depth with strings and such as the guitar wails with lots o' reverb, or you can simply lay it out the hard way with drums, bass, and strings/chorus whipping the horses on the home stretch.
Don't forget the oldest trick for power ballads:
Up the key for the final chorus. And your piano is nice. Keep it in.

Best,

CC

Thanks for the feedback guys. Really helpful and appreciate it.
I'm getting DOD(DrumsOnDemand) in the mailbox soon and are looking forward to try to put a DOD track onto this song.
The final song will hopefully feature a good arrangement. And yeah I will up the last chorus after a bridge back there somewhere. Good hint.
Thanks again guys.

I will check out BFD.
Any chanche you can compare it to DoD for us?
I will go read some about it now. Thanks.
Latest: Just read some reviews. Looks great. Seems like it's for Mac OS only? I'm on a PC but getting a G5 Mac next summer. Guess I will have to wait then.

Quote from AD "BFD is perfectly suited to rock, jazz, funk, country, hip-hop, blues, drum & bass"
How is it for uptempo pop/poprock/powerballads? You know?

yeah.

ive only had it about a week or summit, but it has many many styles on there.
basically, it has about 5 or 6 kits (real ones) and you can mix and match your actual drum kit or use one brand. you can play with the mic distances, overhead mics, levels, panning, etc, basically everything you can do as if the drums were in the room with you.
it has literally thousands of loops (grooves) and fills included, in all styles from indie/fusion/metal/hard rock/soft rock/pop/ballads/etc. seriously, the list of included MIDI loops is pretty much everything you'd need to get some nice drums with minimal programming.
you can humanise the drums too, so they aint so 'perfectly on time', 'hit perfectly the same each time'

oh, and for an amateur like me, and a guitarist at that, its easy to use...

man, i sound like a f**king advert for the thing....
grrr

hope that helps.

Well thanks for the feedback guys.
The file is now removed. I will post a link to a more arranged and finished (demo standard) file at a later stage.
Ciao
