Feedback on a rough Metal Mix needed

Sounds pretty metal to me. Guitars sound fine, but I'm no expert on this stuff.

the drums sound good...i'm not really feeling the guitar sound, is there some reverb on the guitars? it probably needs to come down a bit, or i'm just hearing things haha. the vocal seems a bit loud, and maybe could use a touch less of the 'verb or chorus or whatever that effect is. drums are kicikin ass though, snare is a little dark, but it sounds good that way. toms are nice and big, kick has just the right amount of click to it for this type of song. nice ripping tone on the bass, blends well with the guitars, but the guitars sound like they have some type of effect on them that's not very flattering. but i guess i'm used to this type of song sounding a bit more dry.

cool vocal effects and panning on the clean section toward the end there. sounds good as background to the screaming. right side guitar seems a bit louder than the left side throughout the song, or maybe is just cutting thru more. overall though, song sounds really good. don't take any of my comments seriously, because i just hate reverb in general hehe. plus your monitors are way better than mine anyway i'm sure. i don't even know what i'm doing here. so i'll just shutup now, haha. :o

Thanks guys!

Zed, good call on the guitars being uneven - I saw that on the comps as it was mixing down, but since it was a rough mix, I just let it finish mixing. However, there is no reverb on the guitars at all. They were recorded with a 121 though, and it's a figure 8, so there may be a bit of room sound in there, but it isn't much since I had the mic about one inch from the grill. No other effects either, just a run thru a comp with only 2-3 db of GR, a little Sneap Multiband, and a tiny smidge of EQ.

Vocals are all treated the same - a smidge of compression and the verbs (all vox tracks bussed to one group with the comp and verbs). The sung parts are just layered.

Thanks again for the listens!

edit - Zed - were you talking about the clean guitar part toward the end?

Guitars need some top end & the cymbalsneed less.
The vocal made me laugh - was I supposed to?
Sounds a little like Pete Shelley on Mandies.

Hey NL5! I think the left guitar needs more definition or needs to come up in volume at the start. Drums seem to be drowning out the guitars a bit but it sounds great for whatever you call this, death metal is it?

Gunnar, where is the link? Did you remove it?????

Thanks! :D
Nice.... :D

I missed this one the other day.

Vocals are a bit on top for me....maybe put them back just a hair. Or, turn the guitar up just a little...in this type of music, I like the vocals sort hidden myself.

Fun tune though......I haven't a clue what he's saying.... :D

Thanks Dogman!

How is the guitar sound? That is what I am most worried about. I do agree though, the vocals need to come down and the guitars up a bit.

If the guitar is louder, it might be ok. Turn it up some, and see if that makes it a bit fuller.

To me, I don't think the guitars need to come up, I just think they need a little eq/bite. They are less than articulate IMO.

Thanks! I'll try that first.

I'm listening to it now and I'd like a little more high end bite on those guitars as well. I think the vocals are too loud. I feel like I can hear the sound of the room on the vocals too much. The guys got a pretty wild scream. I like the kick and snare mucho.

I just got to the breakdown and definitely hear a need for more high end on those guitars. They sound a little muffled when theyre playing those high notes.

Very tight. How did you track it? Multitrack everything or live.

I wish I could say the time in the song but lightning mp3 doesn't say the time at least on Firefox. But the song picks up around 9/10ths into it right towards the end. I felt like the volume dropped out a little on that part and I was anticipating some more volume coming from the part it came from. Maybe you can hear what I'm talking about.

I really think it came out well overall though. Well done. :)

Guitars are uneven.

Try using the di signal you recorded when you tracked thier amps.
Take that di and run it to like amp farm or amplitube or something to tuck in some presence. I do it all the time, theyre never the wiser and im always the happier (as are they).

Vox are too verby for my taste, and need to be turned down a tad.

The rest is golden city shreddin.

Thanks Chris.

Yep, the guitars are uneven. One of the Comps got bumped - I noticed halfway thru the mixdown, but let it go as this is just a rough mix.

Unfortunetley, I didn't take a DI signal on this project. I think it just needs a bit more EQ though. There is very little on them now.

Vox verb has been bugging me a bit too - I like it in the main sections, but in the stops where you really hear it, it sounds like to much. Not sure what to do with them. I may try a different verb........Or maybe just less.
