hey all,

I recently got myself a copy of Drumkit from Hell, and I've been needing to find a good program to track all the sounds with. I've used a copy of Fruity Loops I have lying around, but that seems to be more focused on patterns and repetitions ala techno music. I'm more interested in writing 'realistic' music beats, sort of emulating a real drumkit (which is why I got DKFH).

If anyone could make any suggestions on programs that specialize in the tracking of drums, I'd be grateful.

Cheers.

Do you have pt 2 of DKFH with the Kontact VST plugin? If so, then all you need is a reasonably priced sequencer -- I've found Raw Materials 'Tracktion' to be a fine $80 investment -- which hosts VST plugs.

The midi editing on Tracktion is good but not great - but it's good enough to allow you to (for example) overdub a hihat on top of a kick and snare.

If your DKFH is pt 1 with .wav files, you just need to work with Fruity Loops some more - try making longer patterns w/some velocity and small pitch variations and you will be surprised how close to an acoustic kit you can get.

The thing is that I have immense trouble working with the patterns in Fruity Loops. It seems as if for the slightest variation, or fill you need to create a whole new pattern. The constant copying and pasting over to different patterns for the Playlist defines the word 'tedium' itself. Is there any easy way of programming drums on Fruity Loops that I'm unaware of?

What would be the best way of mass-adding slight pitch variations to all the different drum sounds?

Thanks for the help.

What SSS said is prolly the cheapest way to go at it. If u want to stay with Fruity Loops, and if it does host VSTi's you should be able to use its piano roll functions instead of the step patterns. Other than go with another program withing your budget that has a sampler bundled, or buy a 3rd party drum styled sampler like Battery or DR-008.
