3 questions.
What is your favorite group of all time?
What is your favorite group Currently?
and... What kind of music do you play?

My answers:

1. Nirvana

2. Orgy(Great band. Just give 'em a try)

3. Techno/Rock/Grunge. hehe... Kind of a mix between the vocals and instumentation of Orgy, the guitar styles of Marilyn Manson(Mechanical Animals album), the hooks of Bush, and the emmotion of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Hey Web Welcome...Lets see......

Beatles
Semisonic

Sorta a Matchbox 20/Alternitive thing.
I'm working on the recording now..I really dont gig much now.

1. Favorite band of all time: Still sticking with Led Zeppelin. Of all bands (including the Beatles) they have provided me with the least amount of disappointment. In Through The Outdoor was their worst studio album, and yet it still has more good songs than bad ones on it. Tool is coming in at a very close second though, but they haven't matched track records yet.

2. What I am currently listening to is not current. Whatever Angel Witch, Savage, Diamond Head, and Budgie lacked in hi fidelity, they beat the absolute living shit out of anything remotely resembling heavy metal gracing the radio today. If I have to name contemporaries, then Tool, Savatage, Solace, and Slayer.

3. Dark and heavy music that splits its time almost evenly between standard and drop D tuning. 2 parts 4/4 time, 8 parts anything but 4/4 time.

Fun topic.

In my "rock" phase, my favorite group was the Beatles, then Led Zeppelin, then the Who. I obsessed over each for a year to two years. The Who led me to Pete Townshend, who is my hero and whose solo music influences me more than anything else. So...

All time favorite group: Duran Duran

All time favorite artist: Pete Townshend

Those two have topped my list for about the last 2-3 years.

All time female artist: Poe

Currently most inspired by: Talking Heads

BTW, the only Led Zeppelin album I still listen to is In Through The Out Door. :) Wish I still had Physical Graffiti, though. I'd listen to it if I had it. I sold it in a fit of broke-ness.

Oh, but I love Robert Plant's solo music. Also higly influential to me.

I hate most current rock, but am looking forward to the upcoming release from Counting Crows. Radiohead always thrills me, as well.

A lot of people are surprised by this, but here's my top five albums of 2001, currently:

1. N'Sync - Celebrity

2. Radiohead - Amnesiac

3. David Byrne - Look Into The Eyeball

4. Mandy Moore - Mandy Moore

5. Not sure. Maybe Depeche Mode - Exciter

nsync, mandy moore and RADIOHEAD?? that's disgusting...

1. all time favorite group - Led Zepplin/Doors/radiohead/Tool

2. current favorite group - Kill Me Tomorrow/Vue/The (international) Noise Conspiracy/Oma Yang/The Album Leaf

3. favorite musical style - good.

...Mandy Moore and Nsync...I wasn't saying they were disgusting simply because I don't like the way it sounds...I was saying it was disgusting because they're puppets, and what they perform is lightwieght synthetic pop produced by someone else. I don't like Hanson...but I can actually respect them a little.

I assume you also hate the following:

Elvis Presley

Frank Sinatra

The Beatles, pre- "...For Sale"

Among many, many others. I'm assuming of course, that by "produced", you meant "written". Because almost no artists actually produce themselves. If you meant "written", you'd be right with Mandy Moore, and wrong with N'Sync. Justin Timberlake and J.C. Chasez have co-writing and co-producing credit on most of the album.

I'm only speaking of both artists' current releases, by the way. I don't like anything that came before.

Also note that I am not comparing either Mandy Moore or N'Sync to the three artists and groups mentioned above.

I'm guessing you only have heard the singles.

I would encourage you to check either or both of these links out:

I've never had a favorite group or artist.
I like the style.

Groups like Vanilla Fudge, Deep Purple, Humble Pie, Grateful Dead, Cream, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Steely Dan, etc.

Single artists like Gordan Lightfoot, Sleepy John Estes, Pachabel.

I like Blues, Rock, Country, anything. Some if it stinks, some is good. No band or artist ever tripped my trigger with everything they do, so I don't go for the fav band thing.

1. all time favorite group - has to be a tie between Willie Nelson and Devo. (Yeah, I'm weird.)

2. current favorite groups - Le Tigre and Japanic. I dig the whole punk-wave cusp thing, and I'm glad people are making that kind of music again.

3. what I write: country, punk, blues, lo-fi rock (or maybe it just sounds lo fi because I suck... not that it matters. i have lots of fun.)

i have more answers to the original question as well as some really awful recordings ($12 Wal-Mart computer mic, $20 sound card, and Cakewalk Pro Audio 8) up at http://greerranch.com/jeff/music/

i've purchased Sonar XL and an Aardvark Q10, as well as some decent mics, and i think i'm gonna order the new computer next week! i'm so amped! it's gonna be cool to try and actually make my little songs sound decent!

All time favourite : Frank Zappa
Currently favourite : Frank Zappa ( yeah I know he's dead - doesn't matter to me :) )

... and concerning Eurythmic's post " bla bla bla ... don't like Elvis and Blue Eyes .... bla bla " I don't know n'sync, but I'm one of them who'll gladly admit it
I DON'T LIKE ELVIS AND OLD GANGSTER BLUE EYES - no offence to you Eurythmic

"Among many, many others. I'm assuming of course, that by "produced", you meant "written". Because almost no artists actually produce themselves. "

bullshit. no ARTIST plays other peoples music! they are PERFORMERS. not artists...and yes, I hate Elvis, and Frank Sanatra...although I don't find their musical stylings and lyrical content and disgusting and stupid...I don't respect them anymore than Mandy Moore.

1: Zeppelin. With the exception of CODA, they put out some amazing albums.

2: If I had to pick one, it would have to be Jonatha Brooke. She's getting the most playtime on my Winamp lately.

3. Blues rock type stuff

Performers aren't artists? Singing and dancing is not art? Certainly, they aren't songwriters and maybe not musicians (although, the human voice is considered an instrument by many). But to say they aren't ARTISTS? hmmm...

1. Zeppelin.
2. I dunno
3. can you really rate a so called "stile"? Even classical music will catch me sometimes... My answer: Anything with good emphasis, rhythym, and a melody that sticks with you.

I agree with EndlessCoda, if you have your own stile to something you do, if you got the guts to put yourself in the spotlight, or if you can just captivate an audience somehow; your an artist in you own respect... writers and performers alike.

Sinn and be fruitful!

1) Nine Inch Nails... maybe Smashing Pumpkins
2) Atari Teenage Riot ... Alec Empire's solo stuff... Lolita Storm
3) Hmm.. Our band is Guitar/Violin/Flute/Drum Machine Art-Noise stuff... Atari Teenage Riot meets Godspeed! You Black Emperor meets Sonic Youth with a dash of Beck, with a smidge of A Perfect Circle. Yeah, we're weird.

1. Radiohead: They can do it all, rock out, make you cry, make you dance, make you see purple little elephants fly by, oh wait a minute...

2. It's definitely Radiohead again but lately been getting into Sigur Ros, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Kruder&Dorfmeister, and Air.

3. I've done some stuff that's like acoustic guitar w/ electronica, but nowadays it's almost pure ambient/downtempo stuff. Soothing melodies with working parts that drift in and out of the song's conciousness. Kinda like Aphex Twin or Future Sound of London.

1) Kansas. I dig their style and imagination. They are each amazing musicians and their lyrical content is deep and moving.

2) Right now I'm listen to a lot of Dream Theater. They're kind of a mix of Kansas, Rush, and Pink Floyd. I've also recently discovered the joys of Tool. That took me by surprise.

3) The things I'm writing now have a Pink Floyd kind of feel to them. I like to play most classic and modern rock. Modern rock isn't dead, it just got plastic surgery and entered the witness protection program.

1) mr. bungle, radiohead, beastie boys

2)at the drive in, fantomas, radiohead, bungle

3)a mixture of the above + some
