Faulty monitor?

what is this?
I have a pair of M-Audio BX8's (have had them for about 2 or 3 years now I think), that have done me okay for budget "monitors", but I think there's a problem with one of them. It has to be the monitors because it happens when everything else is completely powered down but the monitors. Out of my right channel, I get this sound like someone is blowing into a dynamic mic, kind of a muffled hiss, almost exactly what you would hear if you were listening to yourself blow into an SM57 through some headphones. It never gets really loud, but it's extremely noticeable. Also, during playback, it always seems that no matter what I do the left channel is louder than the right. These particular speakers have all that acoustic compensation control bullshit on the back and a volume knob, but from what I can tell they are both set as close to identical as I can get them without removing them, setting them and putting them back. My room is not the best treated in the world, but I have put effort into building some panels which I try to set up different for playback, carpeted floors and all that, probably 10' x 12' (but my desk/monitors are centered, I was anal about that...)... Anybody had any experiences like this?

(Sorry for the long post, just wanted to be detailed... Thanks for any responses!! :D )

One of my BX8's developed a intermitent physical hum in the amplifier section. It doesn't actually come out of the speaker. thought it did at first but when I got very close I discovered that it was louder when I put my ear on the cabinit and it is at 60hz as far as I can tell. It happened after I flicked a switch and accidently sent way too much signal to it.

Doesn't sound like your issue.
