I haven't used it, but it seems like a decent product and I've had pretty good results with other M-Audio gear. What microphone will you be using?

A pad decreases the gain of the incoming source signal and is useful for recording loud things (like drums).

Thats great. I purchased a rode NT1 microphone. Hopefully that would give me some good results.

You say its for recording loud things. An decreases the gain when it gets too loud? Will it do the same for vocals as well? Because i dont want the vocals that i record to be distorted in anyway. Will that Pad button you reckon?

You can use the pad for vocals if the singer is extremely loud. However, I would start by reducing the gain on the preamp first. Only if there is clipping with the gain all the way down would I engage the pad. For me, that usually only happens with a close mic on snare drum and never on vocals.
