hi,

I know that this has been discussed many times, but, I just want to make sure exactually which type of fan(s) to look get.

I have a PIII 650mhz, so, I am assuming an Intel motherboard. Do I have to find out what motherboard I have in order to purchase a suitable fan?
How many fans do i need? Isn't there one for the whole PC and one for processor?

any help would be great, can't stand these noises even when I am not tracking!

This issue is close to my heart so I will give you what I know.
You should deffinately find out which MB you have. A good fan and HSink can be expensive. The power supply probably has a fan, the cpu has one, some of the new video cards have them, and the case has one or two. Holy Shit!
The P111 is relatively easy to cool compared to AMD. Webstop recomended to me the Alpha PAL8045 heatsink w/ Panaflo o8A12L fan (1900 rpm, 24 cfm, 21 dba) for the AMD. I don't think you would need that heatsink but the fan sounds solid. For more info you can go to;

Z dog,
I really thank you for replying. I actually posted the same question under the thread "the best thing I did to my DAW in the past 3 months"and got some feeback.
I have just found out that my mobo is an Intel AGP set, here is what it says on the mobo:
FW82443BX
F113R54
SL2VH
Intel mc 98

i dont know if these would mean anything, but tell me what to look for to identify my mobo, and i will find it. Thanks alot

A1A2,

Directron.com/silence has a very good explanation of how to decide if you have a slot 1, socket 7, or socket 370. I would start with your case fan and work up to the cpu cooler.
