OK...
I didnt know exactly where to post this so here goes...
How much is a fair price to charge to record a band.
Im not talking making a master but more like making very high quality demos. Using Pro Tools with all my own equipment like a load of decent mics...drum kit...various guitars...amps...pretty much everything you need so the band really only has to bring their instruments.
If Im too vague Ill do some follow ups but I just want a rough estimate...
I dont know if I should say like $100. or $50. per song or like $10. or $20. per hour or what. Dont tell me that it depends....

I know ablosutely nothing about this, but from an amateur standpoint these figures jump out at me as too little...:)

sorry, but it depends......

look around the area for similar setups and see what they are charging.........

i definitely wouldnt charge by the song.....get some dumbasses in there that take 2 weeks to record a song and youre screwed......by the hour is the way to go.......

i give local bands (11am-5pm usually) ...around 150ish if i dont know the guys. if we are aqquantainces, and i see them around, 100ish ha, if i am good freinds, 50.

ha

if i dont like them, $10000000

A fair price will be your decision. The most uncomfortable thing about it is...Will you do a good job ? Will it be worth the money to the band ?
One thing I've learned is that recording for someone else can be difficult. In general musicians and even myself and probably you are hard to satisfy. Some folks just never seem to be happy about their recordings. You have to constantly remind them that its just a good demo, or a CD to hand out to friends, family and others. If they want total professionalism they need a pro studio which will cost far more than your service.

Hear me now and believe me later charge by the hour or you will regret it. When people think time is not important they take foreveeeeeeeeeeer. I mastered a project for a guy trying to be nice and show him some love gave him a flat fee. He practilly tried to move in and stay forever. one of those guys that wanted it tailored for his ears. I did it then he came back wanting it the way I had originally mastered it:eek:

Gotta agree with the by the hour statements. It's the only way you will actually get paid for ALL your work. And Stealthtech has a great point about finding your own comfort zone charging for you own abilities. Ultimately, you will have to live with charging someone for what you provide them. Good luck! :D

Alright I get the point...You guys gave me a wakeup call...I was almost thinking that 100. per song would be good but my last project WAS a person thatwould take a month on a song. Thanks guys...You snapped me out of it.

If you're gonna go by the hour and you're confident in your skillz, maybe $20 per is a bit lean, especially considering you're providing equipment rental (partially, kind of) too...
