Description: This is a rare and discontinued Professional Recording Sound Card (PCI card with breakout box). A 4 channel soundcard/preamp with phantom power/mixer/equalizer/reverb effects/compresser/8 outputs/with headphone monitor jack in one. The item is used but is in perfect working condition. It was $700 new. Competitor to the Lynx cards. I have both. Not quite as good as the Lynx Two as far as transparent conversion, but then a Lynx card doesn't come with 4 high quality clean preamps like the Aardvark does.
The unit is still as viable now as when it first came out since most people are just starting to make use of 24bit/96kHz recording capabilities. Some professionals record in CD resolution of 16bit/44kHz so this unit is more than capable of meeting the requirements of today. Besides the sound card itself the breakout box contains 4 channels of pristine sounding preamps (with phantom power) designed from the ground up to match the sound card. Not many PCI sound cards offer this. Four channels of pristine preamps alone can run you in the hundreds to thousands.
The breakout box has a 1/4'' headphone jack to directly monitor, 8 outputs (4 1/4'', 2 RCA, 2 MIDI), and 4 versatile locking inputs which can accept 4 XLR or 4 1/4'' inputs or any combination of (4 preamps, line ins, instrument ins). It connects directly to the PCI sound card via a cable as shown. The PCI card critical components are also encased in a protective shield to reduce interference and noise introduced from the computer system, something that Aardvark revolutionized. The unit exudes quality and smart design at every level. Up to four of these units can be used on one system at a time.
Instead of buying many separate components such as a sound card, external converter, preamps, mixer, effects, compressor, reverb; the Aardvark rolls all this into one at a much lower price point. I could see this as the perfect introductory unit for a beginner in professional audio, or just a very inexpensive way to start recording professional quality tracks. You can start recording professional sounding tracks at a fraction of the cost of buying all the components it provides separately. Almost everything you need is included here except for microphones and cables. Can be used with a multitude of multitrack programs, some of which are free. It's a very high quality and versatile unit that has received many good reviews. Check out the reviews online or linked below. The mixing and effects are done using the included software. Check the link below for pictures of the mixer.
Parts included: Sound Card, Input and Output Box, Connecting cable (gray), Two Original Software and Driver installation CD's. The motherboard in the photo is for demo purposes and is not included. One CD has driver 5.22 the other has driver 7.00. In most cases you'll want the 7.00 driver since it's the most recent. Even newer more recently updated drivers and software can be found online as well.
