Hi

I've got a Shure SM58, and I hope to soon start recording with my daughter, who seems pretty musical.

Before I spend too much on kit, though, I'd like to see if she will enjoy recording, or whether I'm wasting my time. Could somebody please advise me on what the cheapest kit I could buy is, to connect my mic to the PC and record a few things? I have a PC and I have downloaded Audacity, and I'm hoping to use them. I need an audio interface that plugs into USB, right? Which is the cheapest I could get that would do a reasonable job?

Thanks!

The Focusrite stuff is quite popular, reasonably capable and freakishly inexpensive.

Thanks for your replies.

Dave, I'm in the UK.

Ok, well if you like I can send you my Native Instruments KA6 interface, have a play for a month and see how things go then ship it back to me?

PM me if you want to do this.

Dave.

Focusrite Scarlett Solo will run you at less than 90 quid (there's a studio bundle at £150). 1 decent preamp and a line in and stereo outputs... Think it comes with Ableton intro - which'll trump Audacity.
You'll need to have some monitors of some kind... M-Audio AV30's are cheap and should be enough you you and the kid to get started (they're often bundled with beginners digital DJ controllers)
