external polarity box for microphones??

My mics don't have a polarity switch is there a external box for this
and my mixer doesn't have them either who/brand makes a external polarity box for microphones??

Get one of these remove the pin for Omni mode :D

I like Walters. He's consistent. He pursues his interest in audio regardless of red chicklets or what anybody else thinks. His questions often make sense if you read them with a "soft focus" kind of way.

Take a spare mic cable and a soldering iron. Lick the the tip of the soldering iron (after it's been plugged in a while) to make sure it's hot enough to solder with. At ONE END, unsolder leads two and three and reverse them and solder it back together. Use this cable when you want to flip the signal. And make sure you mark the cable as modified.

Regardless of Wlaters past postings, this thread could have some use and/or validity....

Little Labs IBP.... Awesome tool for adjusting pahse, not just flipping polarity.
 
you can buy some barrel type connectors that reverse polarity. I have a couple of shure ones. They're are a little pricey though. I thought about making cables with the polarity reversed but then I decided having to swap cables to reverse polarity seemed like too much of a time waster in the studio. I can't wait to get a console with polarity reverse switches on all the channels!

Plus, they are inconvenient a lot of times. They stick too far out of an XLR on a console or other gear, just waiting to be snapped off. I have a couple of 1' cables done up reversed.
 
I could see that happening although thankfully that hasn't happened to me yet! I'd definitely make reversed cables if you are home recording or perhaps just recording yourself or some friends since it is very cost effective. It just seems to me much simpler and quicker to flip the phase via a switch on a barrel connector though. I just like to keep tracking as disruptive to the musicians (at least paying musicians!) as possible and the time it takes to swap a cable and mute a channel to check for phase problems seems like a time waster, especially if flipping the phase via a cable change makes it worse because then you have change the cable back to a regular one again. Although I could see it being a simple solution when you know things will be out of phase, ie. micing a snare top and bottom.
 
That's the nice thing about a short cable, it lives at the back of the console by the inputs, no more hassle than a barrel connector to put in the chain. My "console" :p (Mackie 1604 VLZ) doesn't have switches. :(
 
Since most people are recording to some form of DAW, you could also reverse the phase in your software....
 
no it just covers them up by making it louder, and some boosted eq settings.

piece of shit, i hate those units. you could do that with some eq tweaking..

Well except for the soldering iron check. I'll check it with my pee hole. :eek:
 
You can easilly make a Phaze reversal Unit by simply useing a couple XLR Connectors ,a Switch and a small project Box or electrical Box.....

It would be pretty easy to do and Probably not cost more than $15 to build....
