I have a BYTECC 5.25" IEEE 1394 External Enclosure and when I plug it in I can go into device mananger and see it. It says how much space is on it but it does not show the drive. This is on windows sever 2003. It worked with xp but is not working with this. What can I do to get my drive working?

I tried to install it like normal and it said it is installed and working fine so why can't I see the drive?!?!

I formatted with partition magic in xp pro. I cannont install partition magic with server 2003.

First, I would stay away from Partition Magic. I've used it in the past and had nothing but problems. You may find/like the results but I have heard of others having problems with it to.

You'r problem is (and I could be wrong) that PM has partitoned it so that it is part of a complete partioning of your first machine i.e. it's not really a seperate partition but part of a complete partitioning of the first machine. Again, I could be wrong here.

In your device manager, does it see it as the complete size i.e 80 gig = 80 gig?

I went to device manager and saw the properties for the IEE drive and it said it was 120gb and thats right. I have some information I really need on it. I have xp comming I think 2maro so will it work in xp again? Please say yes.

Hey Drummer!

Okay, go to your Manage my computer.
How you get there you say?
Right click on that little icon on your desktop (or start menu) which looks like a computer and has your computer name on it. Then select manage.
At the bottom on the left side of the window you will see an area that says Storage, click on the plus sign and it will open the tree revealing the removal storage (read tape drive), disk defragmenting, and disk management.
Click on the disk management. If you have the USB external HD plugged into your computer, and your computer recognizes the HD. It should be shown in this area.

In fact, you will see any zip drives you may have, tape drive, CD drives, and Hard Drives (USB included).
Each Hard drive will show you what if any partitions it has, and whether or not it is a format recognized by the server. if your computer tells you that it can see, it can see it. It may not be telling you size, due to a number of reasons, but it does not mean you have to re-format your HD.
If XP can see it, then 2003 should be able to see it (should being the operative word).

If you Disk Manager cannot see it, then leave the USB HD plugged in, and restart your computer, or right click on the device manager and select add new hardware. If you need help just further information just ask.
Below is an image of what mine looks like! Good luck!
