Hey, I was just wondering what you think the best brand of external fire hard drive would be for my portable rig? I am gonna get a 200+gig....

Anyone with any good negative experiences with firewire drives?

Thanks again,

Landon

can't go wrong with Seagate. if you're looking for something to be bus-powered (i.e. powered by the Firewire, no AC adapter) then it will be difficult/impossible to find one over 200 GB at this point in time. biggest I've seen is 120 GB

I have both a Glyph GT050 80Gb for music recording and a Seagate 200Gb Firewire/USB2 drive that I use between several PCs for video editing. The Glyph is very nice and worth the extra money because it is rack mounted and is DEAD SILENT in operation.

Zero problems with both drives.

Presonus Firebox is pretty good

edit: oops, I don't know what I'm talking about! Your question is about hard drives...not sc's...sorry!

I have a 180GB Western Digital that is rock solid, even when multitracking. I also just got a 300GB Seagate which seems to work fine, though it goes into sleep mode quicker than I'd like.

Thanks for the info again guys, this forum kicks some major booty!

I heard that newegg.com is the best site for buying computer stuff. There are some pretty sweet deals on ram and hard drives and they seem to carry entry level to high name parts (I'm not in any way associated with them).

Thanks again!

I've had good luck with both newegg.com AND buy.com for External Hard Drives and other PC related stuff.
Recently I bought a 250GB Fantom USB 2.0 drive for $89 After-rebate from buy.com and a $15 PCI Firewire card from newegg.com.

$.02

SEAGATE... incedently the glyphs are seagates acording to my sources...
you may want to reconsider this if your using a firewire interface and dont have a separate port for it... the data i've seen suggests that there are bandwidth issues if the are daisy chained...
