Extension MOTU or Alesis HD24

I have a MOTU 2408 and I would like more inputs and outputs. Seems to me that if i had something like the Alesis HD24 I woujl dnot only be able to use the spdif connection and have 24 ins and outs from my board (Mackie 24-8) but I would also have 24 track hard disc recording. On the other hand, maybe I should just consider the 24i or something like that. Anybody have an opition on this.

I've been running a 2408 mkII and a couple of ADATs & BRC for a few years and recently picked up the HD24. In my opinion, it's a match made in heaven. Great converters, a word clock input AND it happens to record 24 tracks at a time. I'm in love.
