I have the awesome Roland Microcube which has a line out for recording. I also have a heinous Vox Pathfinder which has long since ceased to function. Would it be possible to take the speaker from the Pathfinder and attach the line out from the microcube?

no ..... a line out won't drive a speaker.
has to be an amp of some sort between them.

What you can do - and if you're comfortable doing this sort of thing...

I see two choices:

1. Disconnect the speaker connections from the cube speaker. Attach some length of speaker cable (MUST BE SPEAKER CABLE, NOT AN INSTRUMENT CABLE - you can use "lamp" wire) and run that to the speaker in the Vox (disconnect the electronics from the Vox speakers.

2. Be even more creative and flexible.
a. Disconnect the speaker out on the Vox from the speakers and connect the Vox speaker to a female 1/4" cabinet jack and turn the Vox into a "true" extension cab. Then do the same thing for your cube.
b. Connect the speaker out cable inside the cube to a 1/4" male plug (again use speaker wire to add some the needed length).

With #2, you can plug the cube back into itself or into the Vox. Plus down the road, you can use your cube as an extension cab with some other Frankenstein set up you come up with. But based on my personal experience with both of those - I bet you'd be pretty happy using the Vox as an extension cab for your cube.

BTW - I'm saying all of this assuming that both speakers are the same impedance!!!!!! If not, then you have some other considerations to consider :o

Good luck! You might try to get your Vox up and running though.

While I haven't tried it, I'm relatively sure much of the Microcube's tone is related to its specific speaker design: meaning, you probably won't get a desirable sound using the Microcube's amp with a different speaker.

You could always get a power amp and some PA speakers and hook 'em up to the Line-out!

If the Vox is dead for sure ..... you could find some cheap ass small power amp and convert the Vox to a powered speaker and make it essentially a slave cab.
You'd then just run the line out to the input of the power amp which you could mount in the Vax cab.
I bet you could find some sort of power amp on a chip for 25-30 dollars.

Thanks guys! What I do have is a powered amplifier and speakers I use for monitoring my mixes. I guess I could take the line out through my soundcard and do things that way. Thanks for the clarification!

I run mine into a PA periodically, clean amplification suits it fine.

You would end up with an impedance mismatch as that tiny speaker in the micro would not match up to the vox's 8 ohm speaker.

I have both the micro and a pathfinder. It might be worth your while to tear the vox apart and see if you can find a loose conection or wires rubbing against the springs on the reverb tank. I bought a new pathfinder maybe 6 months ago. It really sounded nice for what it was with the exception of the reverb.

I tore it apart "path finder" before sending it back and found a couple wires intertwined with
the reverb spring a little re routing and the reverb sound 200% better and it
got rid of a little background noise as well.

I have an older pathfiner - tremelo, but no verb. What were they thinking?
