Hi I'm using Cubase SX, a Terratec 8 in/out sound card and a Soundcraft M12 with Digital SPDIF output. Can anyone tell me the best way to take advantage of the M12's digital out? I have the SPDIF cable coming from the mixer to the sound card, and the two are synchronized and it's receiving a signal.

I want to end up with a stereo master track on the PC that I can master in Wavelab, and I guess if it is done digitally it will be a better quality.

Am i right in thinking that I can do an Export > Audio Mixdown in Cubase through the SPDIF cable keeping the mixdown in the digital domain?

Does anyone else use this method, I am not sure what to do being new to the SPDIF/Cubase thing.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

You wouldn't "export" -- You'd just play it to another recorder.

Nope, Audio mixdown will export your project to a file on your hard drive. If you want to come out the SPDIF's to another unit, you have to set the interface up in VST connections then play the song in realtime.

Then just do the Expot>Audio Mixdown and load up the newly created file into Wavelab. The SPDIF Out's will have no part of this process.

Hey thanks

I guesss the Digital out on the desk is of no real advantage to me then. Could anyone explain its uses in a MIxer, DAW setup?

Thanks

I think we already did... It's a direct digital out to go wherever you need it to go.

A digital out is useful if you have some other digital piece of equipment, so that you dont have to send it out as analog, and then convert it to digital , which is seen as having an effect on the sound quality

Just out of curiosity, do you already have all your tracks in Cubase?
