explain this phenomenon

the mp3 submitters who get five stars ALWAYS get five stars (sluice, crawdad,Jmarcomb and a host of others)

Those who dont get five stars usually never do.

Is it that some songwriters are just more talented all around, or do these guys have some hidden thing that I dont know about.

Please discuss.
 
stars shmars......mostly it has to do with sound quality...i think..thusly dont look for the stars on mine...i just wanna write cool music....i never aspire to have it actually SOUND good....lol
 
Personally I don't really use the rating system. If I like something, I post that I like it.

I know that there is a "One Star Bandit" somewhere on this board who just (randomly I suppose) goes through and rates threads with one-star.

It doesn't really mean anything, one star or five, it's all good I guess. You just can't take it all too seriously.

I have given stars on very rare occasions, but usually I just don't think about it.

Oh God, not again...and in two threads even. Does anybody even really read a thread based on its stars? If so, stop doing that. You're missing out on a lot. Any monkey can vote.
 
I honestly think I've posted maybe two or three recordings that deserved 4 1/2 stars, but never 5. The rest, I think is just from people who like my songs. I guess they don't know theres real great artists out there or something. LOL! Anyway, they have become my friends through the music and thats the really nice thing. No amount of stars or lack of would really make any difference.

You know--all it takes is one person to give something five. I saw a thread on here the other day that had no replies and a five star rating. I mean, c'mon!

I prefer to give praise rather than stars, but maybe I should start rating again.

I actually have a program that sprinkles wildcard dust on my mp3's, but I didn't want to tell ya! :D Lately, I think its just pissing on the files though!
 
And by the way, Jamal, I just came from your thread and it looks like you were 5-starred 3 times. You must have excellent sound quality, eh? :)
 
I always submit my threads with a 5 star rating attached. Mostly I do this b/c I prefer having my ass kissed to receiving actual criticism.

Anybody who doesn't 5 star their own thread is weeeeeaaaaak!

Well my first thought was that stars are a moot point, nobody really cares about them..

but then I started to realize that after I posted 2 or 3 threads and got tagged with the 1 star rating several times :rolleyes: (thanx!) , that there were a noticeably low amount of views and comments on the threads.

We all may know the rating system is pretty arbitrary, but there also may be guests browsing who might be influenced to listen based on a rating who don't know it's moo-kah-kak..

naaa comeon you heard it....it was just pals o' mine.....I KNOW THAT and am fine with it...stars used to bug me when i first started like it was a grammy or something....i got over that real quick..:D

If you think for one second that you have a "pal" who would be willing to spend the extra nano-second it takes to rate one of your threads, then you're as delusional as your recordings.

I figured it was a joke...you know, like when "macle" gets one star...taking inspiration from "opposite land," lmao.

Dude, CJ, you should vote for this thread...it's only got one star as I type this, so I almost didn't look at it, lmao.
 
As someone who doesnot really have a lot of patience with songs - yes, I know, I am now formally the enemy. I dont have a lot of patience with songs on radio, dont have a lot of patience with songs on MTV and certainly dont here when I have to download from nowhereradio thats giving my 16kbs/second.

I only listen to about 2 songs every day, and yes, the star rating does count to me. I will listen to a song with an interesting title though, regardless of star rating.

And, chrisharris, I am not worried about the one star rating. Whenever I see a one star rating I click on the thread to see exactly what people are saying in it.
