This is a song I recorded earlier today, in a flash of inspiration on the first real autumn day. The project is called Valery's Kin and it's supposed to be lo-fi in terms of sonic excellence, so please do not flame me about the recording quality :) The mix as such however, may very well be subject to future revision.

I'd really appretiate any comments!
Cheers! ;)

Not sure why no ones commented on this....

Knowing that you shot for a particular sound...
If i were you id feel pretty good about this recording.
It has a very interesting andsort of "vintage" feel to it.
It dosent sound contrived.
Wich can be the major downfall of attempoting to do a conceptual sound.

Nice work Ragata.

Great character in the sound! Although I would tune the guitars a bit better. Lo-fi can be good, but out of tune notes just doesn't sound that great or "vintage" to me. Also, try to balance the volume a bit better, it seems like everything is coming straight at me near the middle of the song, which was pretty anoying.

Hey, thanks for the comments!
Finster: cheers! I'm glad you got it ;)

Halion: Thanks also! The guitars, yes... it's an old, nasty no-name guitar that simply cannot be tuned in a regular fashion. The neck is slightly bent for example. But I quite like the sound of it and I didn't really think twice about it since with this project I cannot let such an issue take a way the spontanity of it all. It's ALL recorded with a Shure A-10 for god's sake :)...

best,
ragata

Youre welcome.
Whats this A10 look like Ragata??
Im intrigued...

Well, english not being my native tounge...
It's an old crappy dynamic that has been discontinued since a few years. I don't really know much about it myself, there's hardly any info to be found online. I have seen a couple of "studios" useing it primerly for percussion (congas, shakers...). It has quite low output and quite a bit of self-noise. It's a shite, basically. But for this kind of music it actually works quite well! I've even used it on vocals (sleeze-rock production a couple of weeks ago), and it definatily passed. Appearance is, well, more resembling a 57 than a 58 if you catch my meaning? :)
I got it used together with a porta I bought like seven years ago.

The noise and even the frequency response is fine to me. I even added noise and crackle to some of my own tracks, just to make the sound better (paradox isn't it? :))

If it fits with the song, use it, and in this case, it fits :)

I love it

Just got in touch with my inner hippy, thanks. the sound is incredible, I love lo-fi music, you don't need thousands of $$$ to create good tunes!

Halion: Yes indeed, I mean it's all about production when all is said and done. "great sound".. I don't know. I like my punksongs raw, thank you :)

Smokindog: Thanks man, really glad you liked it! If you're interested, 33 minutes worth of Valery's Kin songs can be found at www.raincloudgod.tk . Just check 'releases' -> the cassette to the far right, and click 'download this release'. If you're interested ;)

cheers
