Hi everyone,

Here is an other segment from my 50 minutes song, it's located at around 20 minutes in the song. The segment is called Red Cocktail. There's no vocals on this for now.

Redroom Cocktail

Let me know what you think about it (songwise and mixwise) :) .

Rhythmically the song is pretty strong but I think you should work on your melodies and lead sounds more. Put in some more interesting melodies to accompany the rhythm guitars and maybe even some synth or something. Tones aren't too bad, it's just gets a little boring after a bit. Maybe include harmonies as well in your rhythm guitars. The production isn't bad but the guitars could be improved a bit and the drums could definitely be done better.

This isn't too bad though, I'd have to check out the whole thing to get an idea of how it flows.

Actualy, the melodies will come mostly from the vocals when I'll lay them down. I understand what you're saying, but I want to avoid too much melodies since I'm kinda tired of the whole Melodic Death Metal genre. A lot of band do it now and it's a trend I won't follow that much. I enjoy melodic bands as Opeth, Dark Tranquillity, etc, but it's not what I'm writing. Also the song is 50 minutes long, there's parts where you find more melodies and some have less. This segment is kinda mixed.

I didn't really started to mix yet. That pretty "rough" for now, I know. The drums still needs a lot of work (EQ and maybe a bit of reverb) to really stand out. I plan to work on this soon. The guitars need EQ work too. I plan to do this when I'll switch the project to 5.1 surround. Also, I find that the mp3 compression affect the overall sound a lot. Over here in 48khz/24bits it sounds way better.

Thanks a lot for the comments, it's really appreciated. If you want to listen to more segment pm me and I'll send you some more. :)

Nice mix on the drums - and HOT/FAST playing....... Like a machine gun it goes so quick on the bass drum..... Kudos to the drummer! (Guitarists are hot too). Mixed fine by me - no nits ........ :D :D :D :D :D

is there a drummer, drums sound programmed(not really a bad thing)

Yes it's drummer, the drum isn't programmed. He plays on triggers with a click in the headphones.

very very cool!! tight playing and the right feel.

imo this piece doesn't even need vocals.

can't wait to hear more!

this shit must sound impressive in surround.

impec mec!

Merci mec!

There will be some vocals on this, but not a lot, anyway the whole project won't feature that much vocals. And the vocals parts will be used as an instrument mostly.

I didn't mixed it in surround yet, but the whole thing been thought out with surround in mind. The surround mix will be crucial to the "success" of this album. So far my mix isn't great because it's all crammed in stereo, I can't wait to spread it out in surround, I won't need too much compression or reverb once in surround, things should open up better.

I posted some more segments in an other thread but you can check it out here :

Electro-Shocks V4

You could throw some melodic vocals in over the duller parts. Not necessarily sung, but if you can scream a melody, that would be somewhat unique. Not sure how good it would sound, but you can give it a shot anyway.

It's that boring? :o

I guess if Metallica is the extend of your taste in heavy music, I can understand your statement. Or maybe it's really boring... :D

I don't think this is boring at all. But you have to be in the right frame of mind.

It's missing some high frequenties on everything, but my guess is thats the sound you are going for... :)

sounds good for a rough.

it's hard to give advice at this stage though, because anything i say may seem obvious to you, you just haven't done it yet.

some more snap in the snare (however you come about it), change the sound of the kik a little to get the tap in a slightly different place and help differentiate it from the toms.

the gits somehow don't sound "real" to me. like they were recorded direct (i may be wrong) but i'm not sure how you can get them to kicking my ass from here.

have fun.

I'm really not trying to be shitty......the guitar is good, the drums are good, there is just nothing happening to keep my attention. Machine gun like syncopation is great.....put something in there to make me say WOW! Screaming guitar lead, a synth, gut wrenching screams, a blender mixing up drinks! This was in no way a comment on your musicianship....just does not grab me. You could say the same for any of my tunes as well.........this is also the reason there are so many flavors of icecream! :D

ehehe I guess you are right about the icecream...
The thing is, I'm really into the type of repetitive/minimalist type of music, I like dub, drum & bass, electronica, electro, ambiant, industrial. I guess it reflect in my extreme metal project. All I wanted is a cold aggressive mood. (like the winter over here... hahaha)

Yes it's close to the sound I'm going for. Of course there's plenty of things to fix. The snare needs some EQ for sure... It's difficult balance between the blastbeat snare attack and the slower parts. I have to find the right balance.
The guits definitely gets some more high frequencies, but it could get too noizy if I give 'em too much.

I'm almost finished putting some vocals here and there on this. I'll post an update soon.
