The old Alesis isn't cutting it anymore........

what are you guys using that is worth buying?

Cheap and good (used) - Orban 622B

Bit more, bit better - Ashly, Rane.

A little more, a lot better (used) - Orban 642B, Drawmer

There's more, that's just off the top.

BTW... Did you have a particular budget and feature-set in mind?

The DBX 242 is pretty outstanding for the moula.

It's an Orban design, and Bob (Orban) claims it's the best thing he's ever done.

They're tough to come by on ebay these days, but they usually go for quite cheap.

I've said it before and I'll say it again...

the dbx 242. Harvey turned me onto these eq's and they are very nice. Orban designed, great sound, very versatile. I bought a mint pair on eBay for $250 shipped about 4 months ago and it's been a great buy.

That Orban 642B unit does look interesting.

I use a Urei 546 that I've had modified by Jim Williams of Audio Upgrades. Sounds great, and is wonderfully designed. Every engineer that comes in here is intrigued by it.

I have a couple of API 550b's that I think are pretty sweet.
My vintage Audix 35102 pre-amps have an onboard parametric EQ that's just about as smooth as silk.

Those are my only hands on experience with para-metric EQ's.

I have a pair of Orban designed dbx 242's also and I like them. Pretty good eqs, better than plugins.

I would be willing to part with one if the price was right, and put the cash towards my Lavry converter fund.

So how are the new Ashly stuff e.g. PDX 572?
On another note, is it worth getting a "audio upgrade " on a Rane PE15?

I own a stereo pair of speck balanced EQ's from Mercenary. They work very well.
Low noise and have a musical quality to them.
