Expensive microphones

As microphones get more expensive [so to speak,] do they still have "character," or do they get more "accurate?"

they can go either way. for example many blue microphones are expensive but have a distinct color to them, while an equally expensive pair of nice earthworks omnis will be precise as you can get.

as with preamps, a lot of high-end mics tend to be less-than perfectly accurate in their frequency response...but they do so in a damned-good sounding way, therefore justifying(sometimes?) their cost
