I've finally decided to take advantage of my situation. I have a whole house at my disposal to use as a studio so with a bit of remodeling I should have a deasent studio to work in. First I have my main room, 13X26 with 10 ft. celing, Ive been using this room for a studio/practice area for the past three years. I'm getting more into recording now and want to use more of the house. The additional rooms I plan to use are 1-10X10X8 ft. and another 9X11X8, also I have a 6X8X8 room which I plan to use as a control booth.
Considering the size of my rooms, which room will most likely work best for which instrument? Normally I record 2 electric guitars, bass, drums and 2 or more vocals, occasionally keyboard. I am also thinking about installing windows or glass doors so we can see one another while recording. If you have any tips on how I can best utilize the spaces I have, clue me in. Thanks in advance. Oh yeah, I'll be doing most of the work myself so this expansion will likely take several months.

Thanks for the link, it would have been useful about 30 years ago when I was new to both construction and recording. What I'm really looking for is some "hands on" tips from some of the guys who use rooms about the same size as what I have, more of the "what I do" or "what I would do" sort of thing.

Dani,
"What I would do" :) is to use one of the bigger rooms as the controlroom.
6x8 is really small for it and very hard to achieve a decent room response.
Make a booth out of it.
So the 9x11 as the CR.
The 6x8 is a vocalbooth.
The 10x10 a deadroom. (which is good as you need good absorbtion anyways cause the 10x10 dimensions support roommode buildups you need to smooth out if you want a nice sound.
Type your roomdimensions in here:http://www.bobgolds.com/Mode/RoomModes.htm
You can see that there are "doublemodes" all over.

And you have the Liveroom you already use.

Hope this helps for a start.
