I am new to the world of home recording. It's seems you guys no alot from the messages I've read. I just recently put together a computer for the sole purpose of home recording. I play guitar, hence that is what I am attempting to record. I bought a "soundblaster platinum 5.0" sound card for my computer. It came with "cubasis VST", which is what I am attempting to use for recording. This is how I have my guitar connected to my computer. ( guitar- peavey amplifier - Mic/in) The problem is that I get alot of fuzz and other noise in my recordings. Do I need to use a different plug (other than Mic/in)? Would a mixer help eliminate the noise? Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

are you recording the amp with a mic or using the line out?....if you are using a mic, you need a preamp and then go into the line in.....if you are going out of the line out, go straight into the line in on the card.....

Don't use the mic in in the sound card for recording, you will get less noise if you use the line in hole :)

When I first got started, I used cubasis for quite a few songs, and it did me pretty well (and I had a cheesier sound card). The MOST important thing is to make sure your levels are right. In my opinion, you're almost always better off using a mic than going line in to anything (which means you'd need a pre-amp, or at least a small mixer). I've heard enough awful sounding amp simulators to to make me swear them off altogether. Like pablo said, make sure you're going into the line in jack of your PC - never the mic. Use the cubasis mixer to make sure your levels are good before you start recording. Stay as close to the red as you can WITHOUT going over. If you go over, digital clipping is ugly. Also, make sure you're recording at 44.1khz.
