I see a lot of posts about cheap condensers to use as drum overheads, and the consensus usually seems to be Behringer or MXL I believe. I bought 2 Samson C01's at about $50 each new off ebay (probably around $60 with shipping). While I have no idea how these mics compare against the others people have mentioned, and it probably depends on the user and whatnot. I thought I would post clip of me playing drums using these mics for reference. I claim nothing about them, I'm pretty much just doing this for the hell of it. They seem to work pretty well for me, but I haven't overdubbed anything over them so I really have no grounds to say.

The setup is, 2 Samson C01's: overheads (both about 2 1/2 ft over drums, one about a foot or so to the left of the high hats in order to reduce phase problems from hats, the other over the ride, both pointing pretty much straight down.) SM 57: Snare, (used lightly.) 2 AT, ATM 30's: Tom's ($45 best buy mics I bought a while ago).No bass drum mic.

All this into a Yamaha MX 12/6 mixer RCA out -> 1/8" SB Live -> Magix v5 -> Wav -> Mp3. No EQ or anything else was used.

Drums are entry level Yamaha YD's with Zildjian: K Dark Crash Thin 16" and 18" crashes, K Custom Dry Ride, Sabian HHX Stage hats.

This is just a clip of me fooling around on the drums getting the mix right for some recordings I am going to attempt later. Unfortunately I suck at drums and when I'm just goofing around all my fills sound the same, but like I said I'm pretty much doing this for reference reasons and because I'm bored, hence the huge post.

Well here you go:

Feel free to download the other songs on my website which use one C01 as an overhead, and an entire band in one room.

Take it easy
