OK,

I will (finally!) soon buy my MIDI controller and now I have a dilemna:

Evolution MK261 or M-Audio USB Keystation 61

The MK261 is 179.95$ and the USB Keystation 61 is 195.95$. Does the USB keystation has features the other one doesn't have or vice-versa? What is the real difference?

Thanks in advance,

The biggest difference between the two controllers is that the M-Audio has after touch and the Evolution does not.

The Keystation is the better buy in my opinion. You gey both USB and the midi out connections for less than 20 bucks more. This means it can work with a computer or even in a computer/midi hardware setup. That means you get way more use options from it. With the MK261 all you get is a midi out. That means you still gotta get some kinda midi interface for your computer. The cheapest is the joystick port to midi for about 20. That's all cool and everthing but it's basically what you got on the Keystation.

If i'm not mistaken. I think the Keystation can send 16 midi channels out of your computer to the midi out on the Keystation. this means adding additional hardware would be pretty easy. Just plug the midi out on the board to the midi in on whatever it is then set it and your computer up for send and receivce. With the MK you gotta have that joystick thing or some kinda in/out box (USB or something).

I could be wrong on some of this stuff. If anything i'm saying is a selling point be sure to ask a salesman before you buy.

The Evolution MK261 comes with a MIDI to Joystick cable.

I prefer my MIDI through a joystick port myself. On my gear there is less latency in that method. But that could just be me.:D

Those are real good points. I noticed that latency thing to. I use a Midiman Midisport 2X2 with Sonar and it's driving me pretty crazy. But i mainly use a laptop without the joystick port so USB, serial, or parallel where my only midi options. With that then they are damn near the same i guess. Still the opiton of using USB for the midi is pretty dope.
